Publishing and Education Services
Editing
Editing may include structural editing, copy editing, proofreading, checking copyright, and advising on content or presentation. The level and type of editing will depend on client needs. I specialise in editing academic work, including footnotes, endnotes and reference lists. Creation of style sheets and spelling lists can be offered for book-length projects or where other works in a series will use the same style. Indexing can also be provided.
Structural editing
Structuring a publication is very important to its eventual readability and appeal to its audience. I can assist you to plan a structure before or during the writing process, or I can advise on structure after receiving a draft manuscript. This includes advice on headings, division into chapters or sections, use of numbering and styles, and flow of content so that the final publication is easy to follow, allowing the reader to concentrate on the content.
Copy editing
Copy editing includes ensuring that grammar and punctuation are correct, ensuring consistency of style throughout a publication or series of publications, ensuring that the language throughout is consistent and appropriate for the audience, and checking pagination, numbering, picture captions, table and figure headings, references, and so on.
Proofreading
Proofreading takes place at the final stage of preparing a publication for print. Proofreading includes checking the final text, numbering, pagination and layout. This is a very meticulous part of the process and takes place just before the publication goes to print. If required, I can also check the printer's proofs.
Editing is offered for all types of publications, including:
- Books
- Theses
- Education courses
- Training material
- Articles
